On our sister website colourflair.co.uk I’ve just published an article with some simple tips to help you sleep soundly when your mind is racing. This can often happen when you are studying and are really enjoying your course. The brain is alive with new ideas and concepts. You can find the article here: https://colourflair.co.uk/get-some-sleep/
I have been tracking my sleep on my #fitbit recently. It comes as no surprise that I am a restless sleeper. Spending some time awake each night. So one of my goals in 2019 is to get more restful sleep and sleep soundly waking refreshed.
I started with a mattress topper as I was often feeling a bit achy and wondered if the mattress was too hard. This has definitely helped. Next I’m moving on to my pillow. I found a very informative article on the Which? site. This goes into detail about what to look for. There’s a link here: https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/pillows/article/choosing-the-best-type-of-pillow

The colour of your bedroom can play an important part in helping you to relax. There’s more information in our blog post “What colour is your Bedroom.” Pale pink is often used in “away” changing rooms to make the visiting team less energetic and it’s interesting that Virign Trains are putting their staff in pink high viz jackets to calm football supporters. But this is another topic!
I don’t need to try a silk eye mask as some websites suggest. The room is already nice and dark. Next I’m going to try This Works: sleep+ pillow spray. But I think the key will really be not to eat too late at night and not to read on the ipad before trying to “drop off”.
I’ll let you know how I get on…but I’m also going to research powernapping https://www.webmd.com/balance/features/the-secret-and-surprising-power-of-naps#1
A short 20 minute nap seems to be just the ticket to refresh the brain – useful when you have lots of reading and studying to complete.
I hope you are enjoying your studies!
Update: 24th January 2019 Getting the right pillow has made a tremendous difference to my sleeping through the night – I chose a pillow designed for side sleepers. This has deeper sides than normal pillow to support the head better and now I am used to it, I am definitely sleeping better.
